The Standard comes first
Startphone.info publishes a checklist for child-friendly tech: the Startphone Standard. We review devices against it and list certified and recommended products.
We are not a public authority. Startphone.info exists because there was no official certification to guide parents to a suitable first phone — or to child-friendly tech. Our certification is our assessment against the Startphone Standard. It is not a safety guarantee.
A product is listed because it meets the Startphone Standard, or is close enough that we can say what is missing. You cannot buy a place on the list.
Where the money comes from
Some product links are affiliate links. If you buy after clicking, we may receive a commission. That does not decide what we certify or recommend.
Anio. A small paid project: a seat on their Educational Board. Anio was on the list first, because the product met the Standard. The board work came after.
Barnluren. A small paid project. Same order: the product was chosen because it met the Standard. The paid work did not put Barnluren on the list.
Updated 1 September 2026. When a relationship changes, this page changes.
What we will and will not do
We are glad to help a manufacturer that does not yet meet the Standard make a more child-friendly device. That does not put the product on the list, or make it certified.
We will not promote a product that sits too far from the Standard. A paid project does not change that.
